Baby:
She is now about 6-6.5 pounds and somewhere between 19 and 20 inches long. This is a milestone week as she is now officially "full term". If born at 37 weeks, her lungs would be fully developed and not need steroids or extra care. As she grows, she is getting more and more cramped for space which explains why babies like to "scrunch" themselves after birth.
Mom & Dad:
We are staying busy... Adam is typing away. Sarah is cooking extra meals to freeze, attempting to organize, and trying to make sure we have all the essentials. Thanks to some very generous family and friends, we are very close to having everything (and then some) that our little girl will need!

36 Week Belly
And here is the 36 Week Belly!

We have also invested in two "stress" balls in an attempt to save Adam's hands during labor. You'll notice each ball has a "happy" side and an "angry" side. This seemed appropriate to me! My "coach" has also purchased a couple small paint rollers to massage my lower back if needed during contractions - what a guy!

7th Doc Apt
We went to our 7th doctor appointment on October 2nd.
Prior to the regular appointment, we visited the pediatricians' office after being advised to do so by our doctor. Honestly, this was not overly helpful. It seemed every question we asked had the same answer - "There will be someone in labor and delivery to explain that to you." We did learn there is a pediatrician on call 24/7 to answer questions for us when we don't know what to do. That is nice...
After the pediatrician appointment we went to our regular appointment where it seemed that we waited forever... Then we saw our doctor in scrubs wandering from room to room. (She is usually in regular clothes and her doctor jacket.) Turns out she had just returned to finish her "rounds" after delivering a baby!
I've now gained more weight than I wanted to and basically weigh as much as Adam. I guess that means I'll have to have him stop at DQ more often to fatten him up. :) I thought I might be leaking amniotic fluid but that was tested and came back negative so no worries. They also tested for the Strep B virus and we'll find out next week how that turned out. The doctor asked us general questions and answered ours. She said she now felt comfortable that if we went into labor she would not stop it. From here on out, we'll be visiting her weekly for tests and updates. How exciting!
Oh, and we also know our doctor is a trooper. She had a black eye and stitches in her nose this week. Turns out she was in Walmart and somehow a pot fell on her head. OUCH!

36 Weeks
Okay - I'm going to back track a bit. Partially to keep good "documentation" of the process and partially b/c I want to make a scrap book from this blog and I'd hate to be missing parts of the story! ;-)
Baby:
She is now roughly 6 lbs. and about 19 inches long. She continues to gain weight and her primary motive in this "sheltered" life is to wiggle, gain weight, and complete her development. All signs point to her doing a fantastic job thus far.
Mom & Dad:
They are staying very busy. Dad is typing away on that thesis so he can soon be Dr. Dad and Mom is pluggin' away at work and at home so she can spend some quality time with her baby girl after birth! We're anxiously awaiting your arrival, little one!

Mini-Update
It is now 37 Weeks into the pregnancy. From here on out, the doctors consider us "full-term". I'm getting tired very easily these days and am even experiencing some morning sickness (just nausea) bringing me back to memories of the first trimester... only now I am large and awkward on top of it all! ;-) This combined with some wonderful showers and other activities have kept us from sitting down to post. We will, however, update the blog soon with pictures and everything! I promise!!! Doctors say we are doing well and Baby Girl is still doing her daily jig so I guess there is nothing to do but wait... (Oh yeah - and all those other random items on the "To Do List!") Good night, everyone. - Sarah

35 Week Belly Preview
Coming soon to a computer near you.
35 Weeks
Baby:
She now weighs roughly 5.5 pounds and is about 18.5-19 inches long. Her arms, legs, and organs are now basically developed. Over the next few weeks, she'll continue to get some meat on those bones and build her immune system. She is starting to get a little crowded in the womb. Even though Mom's uterus has increased in size 15 times, it is starting to feel constrictive. This of course does not effect her activity level. She must be resourceful and stubborn like her parents... ???
Mom:
I am getting very anxious. Every day brings us closer to the day we get to meet our little baby. I wonder what she is going to be like. Will she have her dad's dimple? Whose nose and eyes will she have? Will she have hair? What will her personality be like? Will she be calm and observant, squirmy and mischievous, fussy, or content?
With under 5 weeks until the due date, it is feeling very real. The pregnancy weight is continuing to accumulate and I get more and more clumsy each day. Just tonight I was browning hamburger and reached up for the measuring cups only to burn my tummy on the pan! No worries, it was very minor - but it taught me that she is sticking out there more each day... I put ice on it as I continued to cook and she didn't care for that. She actually started squirming where the ice was! ;-)
For me, work is starting to slow down a bit - unlike poor Adam. We finished up our prenatal classes this past week. They were very time consuming but I believe they were worth it. Not only did I learn a lot but I also feel more comfortable with taking care of our new addition.
Dad:
Busy, busy, busy. There are a lot of things going on in our life right now. The first draft of my thesis is due November 8th with a baby on the way around the end of October. At least we have finished up all of our childbirth/breastfeeding/parenting classes, so that should free up some time. If I can pull it off, I am going to try to have my thesis done on October 26th (Sarah’s last day of work). To do that, I will be living in the lab, which is going to make a very pregnant Sarah very not happy. But if I can pull it off, it will be a lot less stressful when the baby arrives. I don’t want to be worried about trying to get my thesis done when I should be taking care of Sarah and enjoying the first days of my child’s life. On that note, I am going to quit writing and head into lab.
